Love

Shop window in Germany

There are some things the Fab Four got right. When work is stressful, the weather is terrible (I’m building an ark), and you’re fighting the necessary evil of housework (nothing sucks like an Electrolux), love really is all ya need to keep you going. And having the early Beatles on the stereo helps with washing pots and pans.

More pictures of flowers or sunsets to go with the theme of East, air, and yellow are in the future. But for now, I’m off to do some important humming. Well, that and singing in my head, “Heaven, I’m in heaven…” (Irving Berlin isn’t bad either.)

Yellow Sunshine

yellowhouseYesterday, I was walking around in a suburb of Dusseldorf, taking advantage of 2 golden, rare hours of sunshine before I had to be on a plane. (We will not discuss the fact that getting to Germany is easy, but somehow every time I try to get home there’s some technical hiccup — this time the fog in NYC.)

I’m not sure what era this building is from, but its sunshiny yellow color reflects off the building and white auto to its left.

Egg, plate and cup

eggcupThe egg cup seen in this photo has been around my home (either at my parents’ house or here) since we brought it back from Germany when I was 2. When it was freshly painted, you could clearly see a winking girl with gold, plaited hair and a little ruffle around the neck. Now, you mostly see the wink.

The every day plate fits in with the PS4 North and green theme. It was nice having a day when photography was possible with less flash.

Roam

The Atlantic Ocean, LBI (on the bay side)I’ve been playing my own version of “Where in the World Is Carmen Sandiego”. In this case, I managed to go to a town in Germany and Zürich in the same week. Zürich was a stopover in the airport, so technically I wasn’t there.

There are no yarn shops in the Zürich airport, I wasn’t allowed to bring knitting needles in my carry on bags, and I left the camera at home, so there’s very little evidence of my trip. [The photo above is of the Atlantic, taken on a winter's day back in 2006.]

The chocolates and marzipan I brought home just in time for Valentine’s Day are the only sweet evidence: Sprüngli dark chocolates and miniature marzipan fruit from the waiting area of the airport. Well, that and tales of an amazing, unexpected trek and meals like deer and brussels sprouts or salmon and saffron cream.
